Continuing our development position-specific programming, Homegrown Lacrosse is introducing our Summer Boot Camp Sniper Series Clinics. Designed to offer offensive players high intensity, high tempo and high energy, training drills specifically for players looking to improve their offensive skills.

Our dedicated team of coaches are singularly focused on providing opportunities for attackmen and midfielders (of all ages and skill levels) to learn the proper techniques and strategies necessary to become an elite offensive mind.

Each player will receive individualized instruction, video analysis, as well as strategies and techniques helping them to take advantage of their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.

The Summer Shooting Boot Camp is designed and directed by Colin Achenbach, assisted by various members of the HGL Coaching Staff.

Visit the Shooter Camp Page to find additional information on specific age divisions, locations, times as well as how to register.

Valley's Showing Against Lakeville North

Thursday, April 26 2012 08:43 Last Updated on Thursday, April 26 2012 08:46 Written by Administrator

Varsity improves to 2-3 on season with win over LV North

In a very defensive battle, the Eagles trailed the Panthers 2 to 1 at the final break but outscored LV North 4 to 1 in the fourth quarter to prevail 5-2 in a key SSC matchup.  The boys finished a tough road schedule to start the season with a record of 2-3.

Finally some nice weather for a lacrosse game greeted the AV fans.  The play on the field however was dominated by the defenses.  Freshman goalie Max Chlan for the Eagles and senior goalie Grant Wilson for the Panthers made save after save as the offenses struggled to find the open man and get clear shots on goal.  Apple Valley middie Derek Falteisek scored on a wicked fastball shot in the first but Lakeville broke through for 2 goals in the second and took a 2 to 1 lead into the half time break.  The third quarter has been the achilles heel for the Eagles in the last 3 games and it was clear that Coach Evans wanted to turn that negativity around.  With midfielder Mike Mahre dominating the face offs, Apple Valley employed a very deliberate offensive strategy and controlled the play in the third.  As a result, there was no score in the quarter and the Panthers carried their 1 goal lead into the fourth.

A brilliant breakaway goal by Jordan Ocel using his blazing speed tied the score early in the last quarter and opened up a flurry of goals for the Eagles from Connor Uzlik (2 goals) and Jack Loftus. The Eagles were able to control the play for the remainder of the game to record their second win of the season.  It was also an excellent job by the AV defense of senior Blake Broberg, sophomore Jack Davis and freshman Kevin Falteisek along with LSM's Alex Rulau and Tucker Olson to keep the Panthers, who had scored 7, 9 and 15 goals in their previous 3 games, to only 2 goals for the game.

The Eagles finally start home games this Thursday against Lakeville South (1-3) at 7.30pm and Stillwater (3-2) at 6.30pm on Friday.

JV

The JV played a wonderful game and almost notched their first win of the season but the Panthers scored with around 10 seconds left to end the game in a 7-7 tie.  Goalies Stefan Adamson (first half) and Peter Kotsonas (second half) played very well and the offense was led by face off midfielder Luke Peterson with 3 goals, attack Conor Lorsung with 2 goals and goals each from Gaven Moser and Chase Straight.  Freshman Peterson was dominate on face offs and instigated many offensive attacks. JV plays Lakeville South at 6pm on Thursday on the North fields at AVHS and against Stillwater at 5pm on Friday in the main stadium.

9/10

The 9/10 team once again showed improvement and competed to a 4 to 1 loss to North. With limited practice facilities, the team has definitely had to use these games as opportunities to work on offensive and defensive structure and the improvement is showing.  The defense stood strong led by rookie goalie Dante Carrara-Valdez and Defenseman Nate Miller. AV's goal came from Cody Priebe. The boys next play on Saturday in the Eastview tournament at 10.45am and 2pm.

Eagles at BSM

Thursday, April 19 2012 11:24 Written by Administrator
Boys Lacrosse falls short against defending state champs, BSM, 10 to 4

In head coach Mike Evan's return to his alma mater, BSM, his determined Eagles took a lead into half time but couldn't hold on and fell to the two time defending state champs 10 to 4.
The Eagles completely outplayed the number 4 ranked Red Knights in the first half and held a 3 to 1 lead at the half on goals by Derek Falteisek, Anthony Leong and Connor Uzlik.  Several great saves by BSM senior goalie Thomas Gilligan prevented the Eagles from taking a bigger lead into the break.  The youthful Eagles defense led by freshman goalie Max Chlan almost shut out the Red Knights and the Eagles had the upset well within their sights.

However in the third quarter, much like the game against Eden Prairie last Thursday, the Eagles lost the ball control game and BSM started to hit their offensive rythym (with the help of some questionable penalty calls) and outscored the Eagles 6 to 0 in the third.  AV tried to rally in the fourth but couldn't break through the tough BSM defense.  Connor Uzlik with 2 goals and Anthony Leong were very active in the AV attack.

There have a been a lot of positives to the first 3 games this year.  It is clear that the boys are very competitive with the best teams in the state.  Playing on the road against difficult opponents will no doubt help the team in its development under a new coaching system and will keep the team focussed as we move into the very difficult South Suburban Conference schedule.  That starts tomorrow night with another road game against the new number 1 team in the state, Eagan.  Game time is 5.30pm at Eagan.

JV

The JV started off in impressive fashion scoring the first goal of the game by Conor Lorsung.  The boys battled hard throughout the game with some nice defense lead by freshman goalie Peter Kotsonas.  BSM ended up winning 10 to 1 in a game that was much more competitive than the score indicated.  The JV next plays at Eagan at 4pm tomorrow.

9/10

In their first game of the year, the 9/10 team fell behind 4 to 0 quickly in the first quarter.  To the credit of the team, however, they settled down and worked hard to lose 6 to 0.  Goalie Dante Carrara-Valdez, playing his first game of lacrosse, was tremendous in the final 3 quarters and has developed very quickly in this new role.  Keep up the good work, Dante.  Freshman attack Cody Priebe was like a vacuum cleaner on ground balls and had some nice shots on goal and midfielder Brooks Helling was active and aggressive (sometimes a little too aggressive for the refs!!).  Defenders Nate Miller and Sean Hamilton worked hard as did midfielders Matt Dornbach and Croix Turner who was playing his first game as LSM.  The boys play against Eagan at Northview Elementary tomorrow at 3.45pm

Tough Loss at Eden Prairie

Friday, April 13 2012 09:33 Last Updated on Friday, April 13 2012 09:35 Written by Administrator

In a very competitive battle, the AV boys team lost to 3rd ranked Eden Prairie 13 to 5.  The game was tightly contested through the first half with EP taking a 4 to 1 lead into the half time break.  However, 5 unanswered goals by EP in the third quarter was the difference in the game and caused the AV Eagles to even their season record at 1-1.

With senior defenseman Blake Broberg and senior goalie Stefan Adamson sidelined with injuries and illness, AV started freshman goalie Max Chlan and freshman defenseman Kevin Falteisek to partner with sophomore Jack Davis and junior Dylan Caspar.  This youthful defense held up well to the potent attack of EP and gained some valuable Varsity experience.  The future looks good for the AV defense.

Ultimately however, the defensive pressure applied by EP all over the field as well as their ability to win the ground ball battle enabled EP to control ball possession and set up their offensive attack.

Mike Mahre continued to prove why he is one of Minnesota’s premier face off midfielders by winning a high percentage of the face offs.  Apple Valley’s scoring was lead by 3 goals from senior Anthony Leong and one goal each from Connor Uzlik and Tim Toavs.

The JV lost 8 to 0 to EP.  Playing difficult non-conference opponents is preparing the squad well for the upcoming South Suburban season and giving our young team excellent challenges.

The 9/10 team scrimmaged Eastview on Wednesday night allowing many new players an opportunity to get into game action for the first time.  It also helped the coaching staff to assess the individual player performances and team work development.

We continue with the toughest non-conference schedule in the state with a road trip to two-time defending state champion, Benilde-St.Margaret’s, next Tuesday.  This is the first of many triple header formats.  The 9/10 team will play at 4.15pm, JV at 5.30pm and Varsity at 7.00pm.  Come and support the boys as we battle against the best competition in the state.  It is also a great opportunity to support head coach Mike Evans as he coaches against his alma mater, BSM, for the very first time!!!

Varsity Season Opening Win Against Wayzata

Wednesday, April 11 2012 10:03 Last Updated on Friday, April 13 2012 09:30 Written by Administrator

In chilly conditions, the boys squad, under the direction of new head coach Mike Evans, broke open a tight game with 5 goals in the fourth quarter to defeat a tough opponent, Wayzata, 7 to 2.  After a tense, defensive battle for three quarters, the Eagles lead 2 to 1 at the final break on goals by sophomores, Tim Toavs and Chris Rulau.  The Eagles attack and midfield found their offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter with 3 more goals from Tim Toavs and goals from Derek Falteisek and Anthony Leong.  Midfielder Mike Mahre was a key contributor with many face-off wins and the defense led by Blake Broberg, Dylan Caspar and Jack Davis held strong.

Congrats to Coach Evans and his staff and also to freshman goalie Max Chlan on his first Varsity victory.

The JV had a solid first outing losing 9 to 3 in windy conditions and on a field that needed to be cut. When the players can't find the ball, that's not a good thing!

The Eagles continue with their second of five consecutive road games on Thursday at Eden Prairie at 4.30pm for JV and 6 pm for Varsity.

Good luck to the 9/10 team in their scrimmage against Eastview today at 4.30pm.
